To be a pre-eminent computer science program that prepares students from diverse
backgrounds for productive careers by providing them with a student-centered, practically-
focused quality learning experience.
Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at King Khalid University. I am happy that
you have chosen to find out more about our department. Today we find that information
technology has become overwhelmingly pervasive, while its parent, computing science, has
become correspondingly hard to find. While many CS educational institutions have shifted
focus from core CS and become specialty providers for the IT industry.
There are several ways to present the canonical core of computer science. We have developed
a distinct style and method that bridges the theory - practice divide while remaining grounded
in the core. Technology changes rapidly, especially in the field of computing, whereas the
science, if it changes at all, does so much more gradually. Our understanding is that persons
who are clear and thorough about the fundamentals can adapt to rapid changes in technology
relatively easily. We want the education imparted to our students to be the basis of a life time
Learning is a continuous process and does not end with the acquisition of a degree, especially
because steady and rapid advances in computing technologies shorten the life of tools and
techniques prevalent today. Therefore we do not aim to make our students walking manuals
of any language or package. Instead, they are given a strong foundation in computer science
and problem-solving techniques, and are made adaptable to the changes.
We believe that this approach to teaching-learning, coupled with practical experience is
gained and equips our students to handle the challenges posed by the software industry. I am
confident that you will find our students worthy of the organization.
Mission & Objectives:
The mission of program is to open to knowledge resources and developed cultures in order to
provide the community with qualified human resources that meet the requirements of the job
market. The skills necessary to continue their education, to grow professionally and to push
the boundaries of conventional thinking long after graduation. Build a strong teaching
environment that responds swiftly to the challenges. Our mission is being implemented
within customary ethical and academic values
The Computer Sciences Program Educational Objectives (PEO's) ensure that our
graduates will be able to:
1. Continue lifelong learning that builds on the introductory knowledge and skills of
computer science concepts in their undergraduate program in pursuit of their goals.
2. Apply the introductory concepts of the discipline including design, implementation
and analysis of computing systems in professional practice or advanced study.
3. Demonstrate clear communication skills, engage in responsible teamwork practices,
exhibit ethical and professional attitudes in work environment.
4. Demonstrate an awareness of broad societal and ethical issues in computing by
involving in productive public or private sector careers or higher study.
